The company is owned and operated by James R. Pinkerton.  Jim was raised on a wheat and cattle ranch in Eastern Oregon.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business Management from Oregon State University in 1975 and later completed the Northwest Agricultural Credit School in 1981.  In 1983, after working for Oregon Bank as an agricultural and special credits lender, Jim established his consulting business. 

AgBusiness Services is dedicated to assisting agricultural producers and lenders with independent, objectively prepared evaluations and reports for the facilitation of better management decisions and credit applications.  The company concentrates on improving the relationship between producers and their operating lenders.

The services described above have resulted in new and restructured operating and term loans from John Deere Credit, Farm Credit Services, USDA Farm Service Agency, and many local area banks.  Credit size has ranged from $50,000 to over $6,000,000.  Clients have included grass seed and row crop farms, fruit processors, Christmas tree plantations, nurseries, dry land and irrigated farms, banks, and attorneys.

Crisis Management is one of AgBusiness Services specialties.  In the event of financially stressful situations, AgBusiness Services can provide a detailed, independent, objective analysis of a producer’s current position as well as various alternative operating plans to achieve the producer’s goals.  Dynamic budgets can be prepared to illustrate how changes in production, price and other variables could impact the profitability and cashflow of the farming operation.

This evaluation often entails an in-depth review of the client’s accounting practices and procedures.  Financial statements can be prepared from verified sources and reconciled with earnings statements.  Tax returns can be analyzed for accounting errors and correlated to accrual based reports.  Upon completion, an accurate representation of an agri-business’s current position and its historical basis is available for all pertinent parties.  Jim then works closely with his clients to determine the best possible solutions and assists with the presentation and negotiation of these alternatives with existing or new lenders.  If necessary, he also works collaboratively with the client’s attorneys and CPAs.  Often the improved level of reporting can result in immediate relief from intense lender demands. 

Following the completion of any new loan program, AgBusiness Services can provide monitoring services for the producer and/or the lender.  Typically these services involve interim financial statements, budget variance reports, budget revisions, inventory tracking, sales analysis, implementation and support of improved accounting procedures, and other specialty projects uniquely tailored to the current operation.
